Just when we thought geese would soon be able to fly and the hideous federal roundups would end, there was this news which broke yesterday:
The media stories are of course, conflicting.
According to the Metro article, the doomed geese were sent to a "meat processing plant upstate" to be killed and donated as "food." (That means the geese would have been slaughtered.)
But, according to the NY Post, the geese were sent upstate and "gassed."
The Metro article also reported that the total number of geese killed so far is 750 when we know it has to be more than 1,000 according to the new articles and the one from the Times last week that reported 255 geese had already been slaughtered.
One has to wonder if it is the journalists who are incompetent and unable to get the story right? Or, is the press being lied to by the USDA?
But, this is not where the lies and misleading information ends.
According to the New York Times on June 28th, the "goal" for the USDA was to round up 400 geese from NYC parks. To that point USDA had already rounded up 255 and it seemed the goose slaughters were coming to an early end with "only" 145 more geese to go. (Even the title is deceptive in the NY Times Article):
But, it is not clear now whether Times writer, Andy Newman was writing about goose slaughters in all of New York City or just those from "city parks."
Apparently, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is not considered a "city park," but rather, federal land.
But, regardless of legal nuances or Newman's actual intention, the Times article was nevertheless deceptive, misleading and unclear. Certainly, there was no mention at all of the upcoming slaughter at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, nor were there any official announcements of it or a DEP press release.
I for one, was lulled into a false sense of complacency from the Times piece. It was after all, the New York Times which only publishes "all the news that is fit to print." They don't say anything about "only publishing the news people want to hear."
But, as frustrating as it is to try and figure out the actual truth from all the lies, wrong and misleading information, obfuscations and secrecy, one thing is very clear:
That is that it was one New York Senator who relentlessly led the charge to round up and wipe out geese, not only from city parks, but a National Wildlife Refuge.
This is Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's press release from yesterday, celebrating and congratulating herself for the carnage:
For me personally, this was almost too painful and nauseating to read.
Last night, when visiting Brad, Wiggly and the other ducks at Harlem Meer, I found what appeared a clump of goose feathers along the embankment.
"That's odd, " I thought when picking up the approximately 7 or 8 feathers.
There haven't been geese at Harlem Meer for the last two months.
Once home and taking a closer look, I am not sure if the feathers are actually goose or mallard feathers. They are shaded in brown like geese, but the somewhat short length is hard to decipher between geese and ducks.
But, it doesn't really matter.
I think finding these feathers last night of all nights was like an omen.
We need to find many more to stuff in Gillibrand's bloody cap, the day New Yorkers finally wise up and vote this disgrace of a Senator out of office in November.
We cannot fire Bloomberg as he is not running again. We cannot fire the USDA as they are seemingly insulated from everything.
But, we can fire the Senator who has been crusading like the loons in the 17th century who embarked on "witch hunts" and burned innocent people at the stake.
Well, that is exactly what our attractive blond Senator did in New York. Embarked on a 21st century "witch hunt" -- only the victims were innocent Canada goose families who (if we believe the NY Post) basically burned from the inside out in gas chambers many miles and hours away from New York City.
"A thousand feathers of murdered geese in Gillibrand's blood-soaked cap."
This is one true witch who needs to be run out of town in November -- preferably on a broomstick. -- PCA
