Memorials or Prevention? - The Time to Advocate for Geese is While They are still Alive

A very balanced and professional article today from the Times Ledger. It is crucial that this piece be widely shared as well as responded to with positive comment.

While highly unlikely that any media piece by itself will impact the brutal goose roundups that are set to occur in New York City within a week or two,  press coverage (similar to the above article) does impart the vital message that such slaughters will not go unnoticed and unheeded this time around.

However, it is important that when the media finally gets it right, there is positive reader response and feedback.

Just as ticket sales determine the types of movies produced in Hollywood and "ratings" determine what shows will air on television, reader interest and response often determine the types of stories newspapers cover and journalists are eager to write about.

Little or no response to issues covered usually means the subject matter will not be covered again any time soon.  -- Something the geese whose heads are literally on the chopping block in New York City right now cannot afford.

In addition to the lack of photos, videos and testimonials to document past and current goose roundups, there is also the seeming complacency and reluctance on the part of many who otherwise care about geese to take a more active role in trying to protect the birds and prevent their roundups.

People generally seem far more willing to come to a rally to protest goose slaughters after the fact than take proactive measures beforehand to prevent them.

But, the reality is that if that same activism were directed towards taking easy and quick actions to protest and prevent slaughters before they occur, the efforts would be far more effective and meaningful.

Personally speaking, I am not one for funerals and "memorials."

I like to appreciate and advocate for life while it is still around. --PCA
