Standing Up For Geese and Other Wildlife

Friends of Animals is organizing an important rally in front of the NYC office of Senator Gillibrand this Thursday.  This is to protest the Democratic Senator's proposal to "speed up" USDA goose roundups and killings in New York City and even expand them to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge -- NYC's only natural wildlife sanctuary:

Date:  Thursday, May 3.   Time: 5:30 PM.

Place:  780 Third Ave (between 48th and 49th Streets).

Anyone who can attend is urged to support and participate.   We need to send message to politicians of New York that our wildlife is not up for lethal grabs in order to divert attention away from the real problems facing the airline industry and our planes in the sky.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the fact is, we did not fault and target icebergs when the Titanic went down and more than 1500 people died due to lack of sufficient lifeboats.

Nor should we be blaming and targeting geese for our airline deficiencies and spotty use of avian radar.

Finally, we must keep in mind the natural disasters that normally keep bird populations in check.  These include current warming trends and drought conditions occurring in the west and other areas.   Recently, in Oregon and California, more than 10,000 ducks and geese have perished due to avian cholera -- a disease that tends to occur when too many birds are forced to congregate in too small available water spaces.

This informative news video aired yesterday in California:

With so much loss of natural habitat around the country, can we also afford to be massacring geese en masse in our one city Wildlife Refuge under the ruse of "airline safety?"

At some point, we need to figure out how to peacefully co-exist with nature instead of seeking to blame it for our own human-created problems.  -- PCA
